Enum SerializationFormat
Specifies the output encoding format produced by a serialization operation and expected by the corresponding deserialization operation.
Namespace: Scylla.Core.Util.Serialization
Assembly: ScyllaCore.dll
Syntax
public enum SerializationFormat
Remarks
The format is set on a SerializationSettings instance via WithFormat(SerializationFormat) and governs which IScyllaWriter and IScyllaReader implementation the engine selects. The format must match between the serialization and deserialization calls; mismatching formats will produce parse errors or corrupt data.
Fields
| Name | Description |
|---|---|
| Binary | Compact binary format intended for performance-critical operations where output size and parse speed matter more than human readability. Produces smaller payloads than JSON and avoids the overhead of UTF-8 text encoding and JSON tokenization. Note: native binary serialization is not yet fully implemented. Until it is, the engine encodes binary output as UTF-8 JSON bytes, so the on-wire size is identical to JSON. |
| JSON | Human-readable JSON text format. Output is a valid UTF-8 JSON string that can be inspected in any text editor, stored in configuration files, or exchanged with other systems. Supports pretty-printing via PrettyPrint for increased readability during development and debugging. |
